Preventive requirement to reduce patient dose:

Distance: Accurate SID is important in ensuring the radiation dose received is tolerable and gives good images

Time: Lower mAs will reduce radiation dose to the patient, Radiographer needs to make the correct decision

Shielding: Do not forget shielding such as from lead that can absorb scatter radiation

Techniques: Gives correct kVp and mAs according to patient body habitus to get a better image to avoid repetition in exposure (underexposed or overexposed)

Positioning: patient positioning must be correctly done to get a high-quality image of the area of interest.

Collimation: Closed collimation to the side of interest to reduce patient radiation and scattering
